Looks like a great time. I operated 1B from 3200' in the Olympics with my 705 and an Elecraft KXPA100 into an off-center fed dipole. That's all I could carry on my motorcycle up there. 73 K9WWW

I wasn’t at the Hamvention so I couldn’t submit my answer for what Icom is displaying in the perspex display. I say it’s either a IC-7800 series in SDR format, or a PC control SDR to compete with Flex and Anan…

George, surprised you don't have a tuned loop for the broadcast band. It's fairly easy to build. You could make a servo control to turn a variable cap much like your remote coax switch or use a couple varactors & vary their voltage, to get remote tuning & put the antenna outside. The 1690 towers you showed are the daytime ones. The nighttime array is just a stone's throw away from me.

Just curious… When you were talking about solving the mystery on 640 kHz, it didn’t look like you had 640 kHz in Toronto as a possibility. I’m pretty sure it’s 50 kW by day and 25 kW at night.

For Mike... I think the addage "I have some swampland in Florida..." actually in the last 50 years referred to the land no one wanted but Disney bought and is still today making it pay quite nicely with Disney World... however DisneyWorld is no longer a good family oriented company!

I have just about forgot what I knew about chasing airport NDB's but I think I used to hear some beacons a pretty good way's away. I discussed it was a tech that worked on the one at the airport I worked at. I can't remember if I heard it or he just told me about it but he gave the frequency for the one at Bimini. I think they were like everything else you needed the right band conditions. I could receive beacons 35-40 miles away on a regular basis. I will have to see if I can find my list.

Yup! Have one of those Shack Amps! Used it for audio signal tracing when I worked on commercial radio gear. I run the labels along the length of the cables and protect the label with clear heat shrink tubing. Works like a charm. The main reason why the Sharpie markers are no longer permanent ever since the went to alcohol based ink. When they used the old and now banned hydrocarbon based get high in the scent solvents there were never issues with fading. Tried one of the new UV markers, they are NOT permanent like the old Brinks UV markers. There is a ribbon within the label tape cartridge and it’s a thermal transfer ribbon. It’s best to print out a bunch of labels at a time and spacing the print by hitting the space bar about six times before entering the second title. You only waste a bit on the leading edge of the tape/shrink tube. If on worries about the print rubbing off just add some clear heat shrink over the first tube.

Well at least here they hose you though. It has to be for the exact model number, and when Lowe's and Ace Hardware started carrying Craftsman, they changed all the model numbers, so if you have an old tool that you bought at Sears, they won't honor it.

Thank you for talking about my M5HamRadio project on M5Stack. That's very kind of you 😌 I'd like to add an information. No, it's not the same project as the one you saw in Dayton. I'm the first one, in 2019, who decide to develop cool stuff on M5Stack, for the Ham radio community. My project M5HamRadio is available for free, as you can see in the video. I'm not selling anything. I'm giving it to the community. The other project is a bad copy, sold at a high price and offering poor performance. Thank you again for this video and 73' de F4HWN Armel 🙏🏻

I really appreciate the HD Radio demonstration. HD Radio is definitely available in Canada. Here in the first half of 2024, the FM stations on Toronto’s CN Tower are finally migrating over to a new combiner/antenna to accommodate HD Radio. Other sites in the city (and many surrounding cities, for that matter) have supported HD radio for a number of years, but the CN Tower was a hold out. The pandemic delayed the combiner/antenna project.

Good audio ad for Heil mics and headsets. George sounded good with the Heil mic. Sounds lousy with the cheap headset. I have a bunch of Heil mics and headsets. I have a $170 gamer headset for playing games and using with my KX-3. I bought another Heil headset for the KX-3 and am very happy with it. If I played games more I would use a Heil for that.

Merry Christmas to y'all. Thank you for another enjoyable year of ALTV. I wanted to buy some of the Hubigs pies online but George was so right - way spendy! Great segment on WPSD Emile! I had no idea that PiStar wasn't being supported as well as in the past. I have four PiStars that I think I will be changing over to WPSD. One suggestion I have is to look into using the Aursinc USB interface with an MMDVM and then control it with BlueDV. This would possibly be cheap ham certified since it's less cost! I've had a good experience with this mashup as a secondary interface for C4FM, DMR and DStar. 73 to all and to all a good QSO! //KK0DJ
